How to Fix None of Your Problems

Growing up I couldn't wait to escape my hometown, I honestly thought that a change of scenery would help me escape my problems and would somehow lead to a better life. So a week after I graduated high school I moved away, and was pumped to see what my new awesome life held. About a month into this new adventure I looked at my life and realized that it didn't change much. I was still lonely, I still played a lot of video games, and I still felt extraordinarily unfulfilled with where my life was at.

At this point I came to the conclusion that this was my lot in life, I was going to be a lonely, underproductive member of society. Then I had a numerous brilliant ideas, over the next few years I thought that relationships, status, and money would help me fix all of my problems. After a few years of trying out these new ideas I was still fairly miserable. So I started thinking that maybe my situation wasn't the issue, perhaps the issue was actually me.

I'm going to be honest, when you start to realize that you cause the vast majority of the issue in your life it sucks. We live in a culture that says that we need to be awesome and self sufficient, and if we cause all these issues it really tells us that we are neither of these things. I've met hundreds of people that live under the impression that a new situation would change how they feel about life, which means that I've met thousands of people who are very disillusioned. A change in situation isn't what we need, we need a shift in perspective.

James 1:2 - 4 tells us, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." The different situations that we are put in, God is using to shape us. Instead of trying to escape our situations we ought to be looking at how God is trying to grow us. If we refuse to grow and change, we can't expect anything in our lives to improve. If we refuse to grow and change, we can expect to feel discontent and unsatisfied with our lives.

I want to challenge you to look at your situation and try and find what God is trying to teach you. When we try to escape our situations our problems have a way of following us. A new situation is not the solution to your problems, and new perspective is.
